way around

Jacarri Jackson makes R&B that keeps one foot in the church and the other on the block — soul melodies delivered with a rapper's cadence, written by someone who came to music after a full life in something else.

Born in Funston and raised in northwest Louisiana, Jackson spent his first act on a football field. He was a three-year letterman and all-state receiver at Logansport High School before signing to play Division I ball at Louisiana Tech. When the game ended, the writing started.

His debut single "In the Rain" landed in 2018, followed by the full-length The Perfect 7 in 2019 — eight tracks that set the template: warm, unhurried production, honest writing about wanting and being wanted, and a voice that slides between singing and speaking without ever announcing the switch. "Miss Cold-Hearted" and "In the Rain" remain his most-played songs.

Contagious Vibes followed in 2020, a longer and looser record that widened the range — "Hate My Guts," "Would That Be Enough" and "Man Enough to Say It" all pull from the same well of plainspoken grown-folks R&B. His new EP, Lothario, opens the latest chapter in that story. He has also stayed in demand as a featured voice, turning up on records by J.Hall, David Jermaine and Goody G.

He performs regularly across Louisiana and the Gulf South, backed by a live band as often as by tracks, and has built an audience of more than fifteen thousand who follow the music and the man behind it in roughly equal measure.
